Tax On Plates `unfair'

THE NSW Opposition has attacked the Carr Government's decision to introduce an annually recurring tax for personalised number plates.

The Government will introduce a recurring tax of $100 on personalised plates and $400 on super-personalised plates.

Opposition spokesman for roads Don Page said people considering buying personalised plates as Christmas presents should think again.

``Once the number plate is on a person's vehicle, there are no costs to the Government, so why are they charging an annual tax?" Mr Page said.
